
Introduction to Medical Emergency Response Plannning
(IMERP)

Course Outline
The course covers the theoretical and practical aspects of Medical Emergency Response Planning (MERP), focusing on risk-based planning, personnel roles and competencies, and managing complex medical emergencies. It includes guidelines on resource requirements, mitigation measures, and the assurance and maintenance of emergency preparedness. Participants will engage in interactive activities, such as gap analyses and tiered drills, to develop and test effective MERPs aligned with OPITO compliance standards. The course also emphasizes fostering a strong health and safety mindset and culture within training centres.
Course Objectives

To provide Training Providers and staff with clear Medical Emergency Response and Planning (MERP) considerations and requirements to implement the adequate provisions for their respective Training Centres and Remote Training Sites.

To ensure Training Providers develop and put into place systems of effective measures to then exercise, record, maintain and audit the MER provisions put in place.

To efficiently achieve expected compliance requirements of the appropriate Desktop, Site or Monitoring Audits as required by Approving Organisations such as OPITO or NOCN and avoid unnecessary delays and costs.
Appraisal Process:
An appraisal based on individual MER Gap Analyses and Instructor-led Q&A at the end of the course; the MER Gap Analysis will either be accepted or rejected by the Instructor.
